Haitian Frame : Drum Metal Art

How Haitian Metal Art is Created:
Metal drums once used for transporting oil are first filled with dried banana or sugar cane leaves and set on fire to burn off any paint or residue. The drums are cut, flattened and pounded into a flat metal canvas. Using hammer, chisel and a nail, the design is cut and carved into the metal. The final design is hand polished and a rust preventive is applied. It’s very labor intensive and highly artistic process and no two pieces are exactly alike. The artists of Haiti, along with all of its citizens near Port-au-Prince, need our help. Your purchase of our excellent steel drum sculptures will contribute to that assistance.
